Guide for Authors
The Journal of Women¡¯s Medicine (J WOMENS MED) provides an international archive devoted to the publication of clinical and investigative articles that concern disease of the female reproductive tract. Reports of investigations relating to the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases and their etiology and histogenesis will be considered.
Submission of Manuscripts
It is a condition of publication that all manuscripts must be written in clear and grammatical English and be submitted to the J WOMENS MED Web site at www.jwmed.org. Authors are requested to transmit the text and art of the manuscript in electronic form to this address. Each manuscript must also be accompanied by a cover letter outlining the basic findings of the paper and their significance. Manuscripts are accepted for review with the understanding that no substantial portion of the study has been published or is under consideration for publication elsewhere and that its submission for publication has been approved by all of the authors and by the institution where the work was carried out. Manuscripts that do not meet the general criteria or standards for publication in the J WOMENS MED will be immediately returned to the authors, without detailed review.
Copyright and permissions.
Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to sign a ¡°Journal Publishing Agreement¡± (for more information on this and copyright see www.jwmed.org. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information.
If excerpts from other copyrighted works are included, the author(s) must obtain written permission from the copyright owners and credit the source(s) in the article.
Authorship.
The number of authors listed on the manuscript should not exceed seven for regular articles (except; In the case of cooperative group or multicenter trials authorship will be discussed in editorial board and decided as the usual.); five for Review or Case Reports; and three for Correspondence. Each author should have participated actively and sufficiently in the paper to take public responsibility for the content.
Conflict of interest.
J WOMENS MED requires full disclosure of any financial relationships between authors and commercial companies whose products are the subject of the submitted manuscript. Statements regarding a company¡¯s support for the research reported should be made on the title page. Other relationships that might represent a potential conflict of interest, such as ownership, stock holdings, equity interests, or consultant activities, should be detailed in the manuscript cover letter to the Editor.
Human and nonhuman experimentation.
Reports on human experimentation will be reviewed in accordance with the precepts established by the Helsinki Declaration. Such reports must include in the Materials and Methods section of the manuscript a statement that the human investigations were performed after approval by a local Human Investigations Committee.
Types of Articles
Original Article.
Full-length report of an original basic or clinical investigation.
Case Report.
A brief description of up to three cases of a particular condition that is unusual and also provides new insights into diagnosis or clinical management. The body of the manuscript should be written as concisely as possible. A maximum of 10 references are allowed. Case Reports should include the following identifiable sections: Introduction, Case Report(s), and Discussion.
Review.
A comprehensive and scholarly review of the literature relating to an important basic or clinical subject, accompanied by critical analysis and leading to reasonable conclusions.
Letter to the Editor.
May consist of either of two types of correspondence: (1) a question or challenge to article published recently in the journal or (2) a brief communication describing a preliminary research report, an unusual case, or a review. Letters to the Editor should be limited to no more than three double-spaced typewritten pages and a maximum of five references.
Editorial.
Commentary on an original article published in the same issue or an opinion or perspective on a specific topic. Editorials are generally written by the Editor or Editorial Board members or are solicited by the Editor; however, unsolicited editorials may occasionally be considered and published with the approval of the Editor.
Rapid Communication.
A brief, definitive report of highly significant and timely findings in the field. At the discretion of the editor, these submissions receive very rapid review and, if acceptable, are published within an average of 12 weeks from receipt. Manuscripts should be no longer than 12 double-spaced typewritten pages, containing a structured Abstract of approximately 100 words, a one-paragraph introduction, an abbreviated Materials and Methods section, Results, and a concise Discussion section. A maximum of 20 references and 4 items for the display of data (any combination figures and tables) will be allowed.
Preparation of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be double-spaced throughout with 12 point font and preparing in an electronic file made by Microsoft word. Pages should be numbered consecutively and organized as follows:
The Title Page (p. 1) should contain the article title, authors¡¯ names and complete affiliations, running title (less than 10 words), and the address for manuscript correspondence (including e-mail address and telephone and fax numbers).
The Abstract (p. 2) for an original article, review, and rapid communication should contain up to 250 words structured under the following headings: Objective(s), Methods, Results, and Conclusion(s). For Case Reports, the upper limit is 125 words, structured under the headings Background, Case, and Conclusion(s). Keywords should be listed immediately after the abstract.
The Introduction should be as concise as possible, without subheadings.
Materials and methods should be sufficiently detailed to enable the experiments to be reproduced.
Results and Discussion may be combined and may be organized into subheadings.
Acknowledgments should be brief and should precede the references.
References should be cited in the text by Arabic numerals in superscript (eg, ...have been reported.2), in order of appearance and follow the Vancouver Style. All authors are to be listed when six or fewer; when there are seven or more, the first three should be given, followed by ¡®et al.¡¯ Only articles that have been published or are in press should be included in the references. Unpublished results or personal communications should be cited as such in the text.

Color figures. Illustrations in color can be accepted only if the authors defray the cost. However, if together with your accepted article you submit usable color figures, then the J WOMENS MED will ensure, at no additional charge, that these figures will appear in color on the Web regardless of whether these illustrations are reproduced in color in the printed version. For color reproduction in print, you will receive information regarding the costs from the J WOMENS MED after receipt of your accepted article. Tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numerals in order of appearance in the text. Type each table double-spaced on a separate page with a short descriptive title typed directly above and with essential footnotes below.
AUTHOR'S MANUSCRIPT CHECK LIST
- Double-spaced typing in white paper with 12-point font
- Sequence of title page, abstract and keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results, discussion, acknowledgments, references, tables and figure legends. All pages should be numbered consecutively starting from the title page.
- Title page with article title, authors¡¯ full name(s) and affiliation, address for correspondence(including telephone, fax numbers and e-mail address).
- Abstract in format within 250 words, and keywords as in MeSH.
- All table and figure numbers found in the text.
- References listed in proper format. Check that all references listed in the references section are cited in the text and vice versa.
- A covering letter stating the material is not published previously, and will not be submitted for publication elsewhere, and stating conflicts of interest of all listed authors, if any.
Proofs
PDF proofs will be sent by e-mail to the corresponding author. To avoid delay in publication, only necessary changes should be made, and proofs should be returned promptly.
